Blue Like Jazz Trailer (HD)

I loved the book and I’m super keen to see the movie.

I REALLY hope that they don’t take the whole cow (the book) and turn it into a Beef Stock cube…

Here’s a sample of what’s to come:

Without a Doubt?

Doubt

I recently revisited the book ‘Blue Like Jazz’ by Donald Miller. Blue Like Jazz was an important book for me in my Christian journey because it was the first book that I had read by a Christian who expressed doubt in their faith. I had read hundred of books by Christian authors who seemed to have it all together… and I became disillusioned. Why? because it didn’t explain what I was feeling… I certainly didn’t feel like I was secure in my faith all the time… I sometimes doubted if God even existed… did this make me a bad Christian.

What I discovered was ‘no I’m not a bad Christian’…

You see even the disciples doubted… Peter nearly drowned with Jesus right in front of him while he was walking on water… “I can’t believe I’m walking on water…”

C.S. Lewis said it like this:

“If ours is an examined faith, we should be unafraid to doubt. If doubt is eventually justified, we were believing what clearly was not worth believing. But if doubt is  answered, our faith has grown stronger. It knows God more certainly and it can enjoy God more deeply.”

We are always gonna have doubts… it’s not wrong. However like Blue Like Jazz I hope that you keep the Bible in the middle of those doubts… because The Bible hasn’t changed for 1000’s of years… and the God who inspired the words in that book hasn’t changed EVER.

Explore… and it may just mean you discover your faith even deeper… or even Walk on Water?

God doesn’t resolve (Blue like Jazz)

Have you read the Authors note from Donald Miller’s book ‘Blue like Jazz’?

I never liked jazz music because jazz music doesn’t resolve. But I was outside the Bagdad Theater in Portland one night when I saw a man playing a saxophone. I stood there for fifteen minutes, and he never opened his eyes.

After that I liked jazz music.

Sometimes you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself. It is as if they are showing you the way.

I used to not like God because God didn’t resolve. But that was before any of this happened.

We are in an information age… we have so much information at our finger tips.

It seems to me that the more information we get the more we try and figure out who God is…

We try to prove just how much God is love… we try and prove just how much God is a jealous God… the list goes on. The problem is by doing this we make God only a little bit bigger than what we can imagine… when God is so much bigger than we can even imagine imagining.

And to make matters worse we’ve taken sides over which parts of God we like.

We have a tribe trying to prove how much God loves us

We have a tribe trying to prove how just God is

We have a tribe trying to prove how merciful God is

The problem is God IS Love, is Merciful, is Just…

but he’s so much bigger than that… and by trying to push him into a particular area we are only being idolatrous… creating God to who we think he should be.

God keeps on going and going… far  far  far beyond where our minds can go.

And it has to be like that… otherwise God isn’t God at all

God doesn’t resolve.
